L.A. Doggett postage stamp collection, 1840-1953 (bulk 1840-1883).

The collection contains four volumes of ca. 5,000 international postage stamps that L.A. Doggett collected over a period of many years. The collection was originally planned to cover 1840-1870 but continued into the 1880s. Stamps included since the 1880s document countries' centennials. Characterized by the collector as mostly of "poor" condition, the early stamps are frequently in duplicate, exhibiting their various cancellations, watermarks, color shades, and perforations.
